Learn Sandboarding at the Paoay Sand Dunes!
The Paoay Sand Dunes is located along the eastern part of Ilocos Norte’s coast. It is a popular tourist spot featuring 88 square kilometers of sand perfect for 4×4 jeep rides and sandboarding.
When you’re on a 4×4 ride in here, you will feel your blood rush as the vehicle races across the dunes, the bumpy trails, and the sun on your face. There is also a bamboo art installation in the area, which is dedicated to Nora Aunor. It is to remember her performance in ‘Himala’ from 1982.
For sandboarding, you will be taken to tall dunes in the area. You will ride a board down the sandy hills leading closer to the beach. It is best to visit on the dry months of December to May.
To get the most out of your visit, schedule it on the late afternoon from 4 to 6pm to catch the sunset in your images.

– From Manila to Laoag City
1. From Manila, head to Cubao and ride a bus heading to Laoag City. It will take an estimate of about 11-12 hours.
2. When you’re settled in the city already, head downtown and ride a tricycle. Ask for the tricycle to bring you to Paoay Lake Waterpark.
3. When you’re there, avail their packages and have fun at the waterpark!

1. RIDE A 4×4 JEEP
– At Brgy. Masintoc, you can avail an exhilarating ride on a 4×4 jeep across the dunes and slopes of sand across Paoay.
2. SANDBOARDING
– You can’t pass up on a chance to experience actual snowboarding! The sand dunes are the perfect height for first-timers! It’s not as daunting as it looks.
