La Paz Sand Dunes: The Desert of the North

La Paz Sand Dunes: The Desert of the North

The La Paz Sand Dunes is one of the most visited tourist spots in Ilocos Norte. It is a 85 kilometer long coastal beach and desert area stretching out on La Paz. This tourist spot is well-known locally as Bantay Bimmaboy because of its pig-like shape.

This sand dune is affectionately called the Desert of the North because it is also popular in the local and international film industry. Famous foreign movies like Born on the Fourth of July and Mad Max were shot here, along with local ones like Panday and Himala.

When you’re in the La Paz Sand Dunes, you will enjoy a panoramic view of both the South China Sea and Laoag City. It is also part of the Ilocos Sand Dunes that spans the entire city of Laoag and is identified as a National Geological Monument in the Philippines by the National Committee on Geological Sciences (NGCS).
