Marvel at the Limestone Basin of Kapurpurawan Rock Formation!
Ilocos Norte is a tourism hotspot thanks to the natural and man-made sights it has. It offers pristine beaches, historical landmarks, and some mighty rock formations – like Kapurpurawan Rock Formation.
The Kapurpurawan Rock Formation can be found in the coast of Burgos, almost 45 kilometers from Laoag. It is ten minutes from the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse and is within the vicinity of the Burgos Wind Farm. When you head North from Kapurpurawan, you will see the sought-after Bangui Bay with its windmills.
Kapurpurawan is a portion of a major sedimentary basin in the Philippines. This has been carved by the wind and the waves over time – revealing the ivory part of its limestone deposit. The term Kapurpurawan comes from the local term “puraw” which means white.
When you visit Kapurpurawan, be sure to bring your shades and other eye protections. The ivory limestone can be too bright for the eyes under the sun.
